Theengs Plug can work with Home Assistant, OpenHAB, Jeedom, NodeRed, or any MQTT-compatible DIY Home Automation controller.
Theengs Plug requires an MQTT broker to work. A beginner MQTT level is needed.

The plug is preloaded with OpenMQTTGateway and brings the following features:
- Home Assistant MQTT convention auto-discovery, BLE devices are automatically created into Home Assistant
- Adaptive scanning, the gateway adapts its parameters depending on the devices you have

- Does the plug require internet access?
The plug uses the internet to check if new firmware is available but does not rely on a cloud service to work (unless you configure it to connect to a cloud service).

Yes, if you are located outside of the US, you will have to pay the customs and taxes related to your country.

My SmartHome is pretty well bristling with devices. There's one of me, three cats and 92 current DHCP leases. This wasn't my first MQTT rodeo. So long as you have your wifi network name, your MQTT username and the passwords to both setup is pretty fast.
It wants uppercase letters in the hexadecimal password by the by.
Overall, this device is an excellent addition to my Home Assistant setup.
First impressions: It’s a solid piece of hardware—sturdy, satisfying to hold, and clearly well-built. Setting it up was a breeze; I had it connected to my Wi-Fi in just a few minutes. I also enabled the Home Assistant add-on by mihsu81, which immediately started displaying plug data. A standout moment was seeing the BLE-to-MQTT gateway in action—it automatically detected a nearby CO2 sensor and seamlessly added it to my dashboard. Truly impressive.
Florian is very responsive to emails and answers questions quickly - he helped me connect to my MQTT server securely. The forum is also an invaluable resource for community-driven support.
One thing to note: the software ecosystem for this device isn’t centralized under a single GitHub organization. This means you may need to spend some time tracking down the right tools to use.
Great product for what it does. Well built, feels durable. Setup could have been easier, though I take the blame for not fully understanding some of the instructions. Theengs was great at identifying and ensuring my issue was corrected.
I bought this to connect a BM2 12v battery monitor on my car to my Home Assistant setup. It was a bit tricky to get the Theengs plug to recognize my WiFi; for some reason it took several tries for it to work. Once working, though, the sensors for my BM2 showed up automagically within seconds, and it has been rock solid for over the two weeks since then.
The only drawback I see is that the voltage sensor from the BM2 always says "Unknown", so I don't think the BLE data is being parsed correctly. The battery percentage works fine though, and that has been good enough.
The plug electricity usage monitoring has been an added bonus that I didn't think I'd use, but has turned out to be pretty handy.
I needed a smart plug to add to Home Assistant, and I also wanted to extend my Home Assistant’s Bluetooth range. This does both very well. Has every function you’d expect from a smart plug, and Bluetooth devices get added to MQTT easily. Integration and adding this to home assistant was quick and easy. Highly recommended.
